JiaMing Lake (嘉明湖), often referred to as the “Angel’s Tear,” is located in the Siangyang Forest Recreation Area near Taitung, Taiwan. Known for its pristine, sapphire-blue waters, the lake is a remote destination that remains relatively untouched and sees fewer crowds compared to more popular hiking spots like Yushan or Alishan. This remoteness offers trekkers a rare sense of seclusion and tranquility, making it an ideal escape for those seeking a break from the fast pace of urban life.
At an altitude of 3310m, JiaMing Lake sits in a unique alpine environment where temperatures are cooler, especially in the early mornings and evenings, and may even drop close to freezing during certain months. Trekkers are rewarded with breathtaking views of rugged landscapes, alpine flora, and, on clear days, expansive views of the surrounding mountains.
The trek to JiaMing Lake typically takes about three days (stay 2 nights on 2 different mountain cabin), requiring both endurance and preparation due to the high altitude and steep terrain. | Day 1 | Arrive in Taipei. Flight arrival before 1pm. Transfer to Hualien. Overnight: Hualien hotel (900m) |
| Day 2 | Transfer to Jiaminghu trailhead (2370m). Trek to Siangyang Cabin. Overnight: Siangyang cabin (2850m) |
| Day 3 | Trek to Jiaminghu Cabin. Trek to Mt Sancha Peak (3496m) Trek to Jiaming Lake (3310m). Return to Jiaminghu Cabin. Overnight: Jiaminghu cabin (3350m) |
| Day 4 | Descend to trailhead via Siangyang Cabin. Transfer to Taipei. Overnight: Taipei hotel |
| Day 5 | Depart Taipei. |
